OVERVIEW
Gabriel provides somatic movement therapy, neuromuscular therapy, and somatic education for our clients. You could say Gabriel has been a mind-body practitioner since before he even knew this phrase existed. An early interest in the complexities of human experience and a strong desire to help people thrive led him to study Psychology as an undergrad at Ithaca College. However, he was unsatisfied with the conventional theories and treatment offered by psychologists, after graduating he immediately enrolled in massage therapy school with an intuition that human touch is essential to our health and well-being.
Much of what he learned in massage training confirmed this belief; however, by the time he completed his training, Gabriel was suffering from increasingly debilitating musculoskeletal pain. In his mid-20s, Gabriel began a process of exploring treatments for pain that will be familiar to many chronic pain sufferers. He tried chiropractic, acupuncture, homeopathy, yoga, pilates, and various modalities of massage therapy but only found temporary relief.
Finally, he was introduced to Somatics, a practice that bridges philosophy and science, mind and body, awareness and movement. By following the practices described by Thomas Hanna and Moshe Feldenkrais, Gabriel began to unwind, recover control over his body, and gradually but steadily reverse his pain and tension. He then went on to complete training as a Hanna Somatic Educator and has been working in private practice since 2006, offering a blend of clinical somatic techniques and neuromuscular therapy.
In 2022, Gabriel completed his doctorate in Mind-Body Medicine along with a certificate in Biofeedback from Saybrook University. He is passionate about somatics and integrative medicine and lives to help others who are looking for ways to regain comfort and joy in their bodies. He is thrilled to be offering these services at NeuroGrove where his body-based self-regulation techniques can be coupled with neuro-based self-regulation techniques along with naturopathic and functional medicine. Besides seeing clients for chronic mental and physical dysfunction, Gabriel works as a director of research, is the President of the board of directors of the Association for Hanna Somatic Education, and trains clinical practitioners with Essential Somatics.
In his spare time, Gabriel is busy raising three beautiful kids and enjoying all of the amazing outdoor activities Colorado has. His focus on getting to the root causes of neuromuscular imbalances, releasing trauma from the body, and retraining the body’s musculoskeletal and nervous system for long-term change make him a valuable member of the NeuroGrove team.
